Graffiti Removal Cost in Los Angeles: City vs Pro (2026)

Graffiti Removal Cost in Los Angeles: City vs Pro (2026)

Graffiti shows up overnight, and the first question is who pays to get rid of it. In Los Angeles there are two routes: report it to the city through MyLA311, or call a pro. We went through the 317,375 graffiti requests the city logged in 2024 to see how fast the first route really is, then priced the second.

Short answer: Report it to MyLA311 the same day. The city closed 88% of resident-reported graffiti requests within a week in 2024, with a median of 1.7 days. A pro costs $140 to $900 per job, and our own minimum charge is $110 to $210. Hire a pro only if your ticket is still open after 7 days.

The same guide gives a rule of thumb of $1 to $3 per square foot. Those are national numbers. Our own commercial labor in the Los Angeles area runs $105 to $195 an hour, with a minimum charge of $110 to $210.

What will graffiti removal cost for your wall?

A single tag is almost always priced at the minimum charge, because the per-square-foot math comes out below it. At $1 to $3 a square foot, a 4 by 8 foot panel works out to $32 to $96, which is less than our $110 to $210 minimum. Cost only starts to follow the area on bigger walls, roughly 100 square feet and up.

The first week is where the city closes nearly everything. The long tail is small but real.

We left out 130,108 requests logged as Driver Self Report. Those close almost instantly, with 99% closed within a week, and they would make the city look faster than it is for a business owner filing a ticket. About 22% of resident requests, 40,301 in all, ended as Cancelled. The data doesn’t say why, so check that your own ticket says Closed. Closed means the city closed the ticket, and it doesn’t prove the wall is clean.

Which council districts wait longest?

Council districts 11, 5 and 13 have the slowest medians, at 4.1, 3.7 and 2.9 days. Districts 7, 12 and 6 close more than 98% of requests within a week. Districts 1, 14 and 11 trail, closing 78%, 81% and 82%.

What does the city program do, and what doesn’t it?

The city’s graffiti program, run by the Office of Community Beautification, aims to remove graffiti within a week of the report. Painted walls get paint, color-matched as closely as possible. Unpainted concrete such as curbs and block walls is sand or water blasted. Metal poles and signs get chemical removal. Registered murals get a permanent coating that lasts about ten years.

On private property the city says removal is possible but not guaranteed. You sign a consent form, and the office keeps the final call. The program page does not list a fee for removal. See the Office of Community Beautification graffiti abatement page for the current rules and phone hours.

Report it to the city or hire a pro?

Report it to the city first. A median of 1.7 days and a close rate of 88% inside a week make waiting cheap, because a pro call starts at our $110 to $210 minimum and the national median job is $380. Filing takes a few minutes on the MyLA311 site or app, or by calling 3-1-1.

Two things the city route can’t promise are an exact paint match and a time. The program matches color as closely as it can, and a request can sit. If you manage a storefront and the tag faces customers, take a photo before you file so you can show the property manager and the insurer what happened.

File with the city first. Pay a pro when the ticket outlives the city’s own one-week goal.

File on MyLA311 the day you see the tag, and hire a pro if the ticket is still open after 7 days. The reason is the numbers: 88% of the resident tickets the city closes are done inside a week, while a pro costs at least $110 to $210. About 12% of the requests the city closes take longer than that, and 7 days is also the city’s own goal, so it’s the point where waiting stops being cheap.

Need a pro? Send a photo of the wall and a rough size to [email protected], or call 818-835-0556, and we’ll price it before we show up. See our commercial building repair services for what we handle, the commercial rates and quotes guide for how quotes are built, and the guide to what property managers should expect from a maintenance vendor. How we got these numbers

We downloaded the MyLA311 Service Request Data 2024 file from the City of Los Angeles open data portal in November 2026 and kept every request with the type Graffiti Removal. That gave 317,375 requests. We split them by the request source field. 130,108 were logged as Driver Self Report, and 187,267 came from everyone else.

Time to close is the closed date minus the created date, and we only timed requests with the status Closed, which left 142,962. The remaining resident requests were Cancelled (40,301) or had another status, such as Open, Referred Out, Forward or Pending (4,004). Council district comes from the district recorded on the request. We used 2024 because it is the last full year. The 2025 file shows graffiti requests falling from about 30,000 in January to about 2,000 in August, and we can’t explain the drop.

Known limits: Closed is the city’s status and not a check that the wall was cleaned, we can’t see why requests were cancelled, and the pro prices come from one national marketplace guide plus our own published rates. The estimates in the size table multiply an area by a per-square-foot rule of thumb.
