General Contractor in Los Angeles for Stores, Offices and Restaurants
The Handy Geeks is now a licensed general contractor in California. For years, store teams, facility managers and property managers have sent us their punch lists. Now the bigger jobs can come to us too: tenant improvements, remodels, ADA upgrades and storefront work. The project manager who handles your repairs runs the project, so nobody has to explain the building from scratch.
Short answer: The Handy Geeks is a licensed general contractor based at 6020 S La Brea Ave in Los Angeles. We take on tenant improvements, remodels and renovations, ADA and code upgrades, and storefront and exterior work for commercial clients across Los Angeles, Southern California and the Bay Area. Every project gets a written scope and price before work starts and a $2M general liability certificate on request.

Request a project quote. Send us the address and a rough idea of the job. Drawings help, and so do phone photos. You’ll get a written scope and price back, and a COI if the landlord asks for one. Prefer the phone? Call +1 818-835-0556.
What Work Does The Handy Geeks Take On as a General Contractor?
We take on four kinds of projects, all for occupied commercial spaces:
- Tenant improvements. A new tenant is moving into a retail, office, restaurant or medical suite, or the current one wants it redone. We frame, hang drywall, put in ceilings and doors, and finish it.
- Remodels. Sometimes it’s floors and paint in one store. Sometimes it’s moving walls around in a whole office, restaurant or rental unit.
- ADA and code upgrades. Accessible restrooms, grab bars, door hardware, entrances and clearances. See our guide to ADA storefront door requirements.
- Storefront and exterior work. Storefront doors, hardware and gates, plus exterior trim and repairs to the facade.

Why Hire One Company for Repairs and Construction?
The crew that already knows your building is a faster start than a new contractor walking it for the first time. We have the landlord contacts, the after-hours access rules and the photos of what’s behind the walls. Before, a repair list that turned into a permitted job meant handing it to someone else. Now it stays with us.
You also keep one set of paperwork: one certificate of insurance, one point of contact and invoices that match your PO line by line.
How Does a General Contracting Project Run?
- Walkthrough and scope. We visit the site, review drawings if there are any, and send a written scope and price.
- Permits and approvals. If the work needs a permit, we tell you before we quote and handle the permit as part of the job. We also work through landlord and mall vendor rules.
- Scheduled around your hours. We can work early, late or on weekends. On bigger jobs we split the work into phases so you can keep selling while we build.
- Close-out. When we finish, you get dated photos from before and after, a short note on what we did, and an invoice itemized line by line.
Who Do We Build For?
Retail stores and boutiques, restaurants and cafés, offices and commercial buildings, medical and dental offices, mall tenants and property managers. Clients and partners we work for include retail brands such as Chanel, Pandora and MOSCOT, schools such as Alpha School, and property and facilities managers such as Westland Real Estate Group and Sterling Facilities Management. See our portfolio for the full list.
Where Do You Work?
Mostly LA, but we go all over SoCal (Long Beach, Glendale, Irvine, Torrance) and up to the Bay Area too. Our crews and project managers all work out of 6020 S La Brea Ave in LA.

Questions We Get About the License
Are you a licensed general contractor?
We do. Our California general contractor license covers the jobs a handyman can’t legally take, including permitted work.
Will you still take a single door closer or a drywall patch?
Of course. Repairs are still the bulk of our work. The license just means that when a repair list turns into a real project, you don’t need a second company.
Can you work while our store stays open?
Usually. We schedule work before opening, after close or on weekends and phase bigger projects so the space can keep trading where possible.
How do you price construction projects?
Projects are priced one at a time. You see the written scope and the number before we start. Repairs stay on the hourly rates we publish.
Do you handle permits?
Yes. If the work needs a permit, we tell you before we quote and handle it as part of the job.
